Now I am a Bulletproof dieter!
Today is my 5th day into the Bulletproof Diet. I am following it quite strictly, except the period of the intermittent fasting. My man gets hungry too early so we have lunch around 12pm, instead of waiting for a couple of more hours!
Basically it is a keto diet but with selected groups of food. Organic, unprocessed, good fat. The fat I eat are:
- Home made ghee from grass-fed milk. By making ghee, it is lactose and casein free, and it is super delicious!
- Organic olive oil
- Organic sesame oil
- Egg yolk
Since I am 15 weeks preggie, I intend to keep the sugar intake as low as possible. I don’t need sugar because fat provides ketone, which is a superior source of energy for my body and baby. So my daily goal is 25g right now. This is quite hard!
This means, I stopped eating fruits like before. You may say, what about all the Vitamin C? I get enough Vitamin C from eating fresh vegetables! So the only fruits I eat right now are berries, and I eat them after dinner. I don’t need more than that.
My day is like this:
- Breakfast: Bulletproof Coffee with 2 tablespoons of ghee and 2tablespoons of MCT oil
- Lunch: high fat, no starch with a bit of protein
- Dinner: high fat, some starch, and a bit of protein, a bowl of berries
Calorie break down is like: 20% fresh veggies, 5% starch, 20% protein, and the rest comes from fat.
Twice a week I do protein-fasting to encourage my body to carry out autophagy, to clean up my ‘crap’ out of my body. I did it once so far, and I had much longer restful sleep than usual! (measured by a device). Normally you just have to replace the protein calorie by carb calorie, but carbs here mean white rice or sweet potatoes.
We hardly eat any processed food now. Cooking is fun for me, and it is a challenge to come up with new original recipe! My Indian keto dinner was so delicious, I think I am going to do it again tonight!!! The cauliflower was divine, although it was a bit too spicy!!!
By the way, I am NOT doing this to lose weight. I intend to gain healthily during the pregnancy without putting on too much unnecessary weight. I trust my body’s natural response. I still have a lot of muscle mass so I expect to ‘lose’ it during the course of pregnancy (so far I ‘lost’ about a kg since I got pregnant). Let’s see how it goes – tomorrow will be the scan for the 4th month!
